Tatva – A Vegetarian Revolution

Though Zomato says Tatva is a casual dining restaurant, it is no less than a fine dining or for that matter a Modern Dining (as it is mentioned on the board outside the restaurant).

Tatva, a unit of Hotel Rajdhani has two section as of now. One is the cafe and the other is a dining area. Please be advised that this a this is a pure vegetarian restaurant and serves no alcohol 🙂

Talking about the ambiance of the restaurant, Tatva says, “Fine Dine is fine. We just do it better” and yeah I cannot deny what they said. In the recent times, Tatva is one of those places wherein I was awed by the ambiance. The decor of their cafe is just eye catching with all their frames, posters, toys and miniatures hanging on their walls.

Let’s see what my taste buds got to say about the food.

In Soups we had, ‘Soppa De Tortilla‘, ‘Wonton Clear Soup‘ and ‘Creme of Broccoli‘. Among the three, Creme of Broccoli was my favorite. It was a simple cream based soup with broccoli.

In Starters, we had ‘Smoked Pesto Paneer Tikka‘, ‘Thai Shashlik Paneer‘, ‘Crackling Spinach‘, ‘Falafel and Hummus‘, ‘Jalapeno Poppers‘ and  ‘Kamal Kaldi Galauti’.

Smoked Pesto Paneer Tikka‘, has a regular cottage cheese and bell peppers roasted properly and marinated with basil pesto and spices. You’ll definitely have a smokey flavor with this dish and given how common cottage cheese (paneer) is for vegetarians, the way it was presented was mind blowing. ‘Thai Shashlik Paneer‘ is basically grilled paneer, skewered and served with peanut sauce. ‘Cracking Spinach‘ is something that I saw and tasted for the first time and I saw was completely astonished by the fact that even Spinach can be cooked and presented in such a beautiful way. The name cracking because it is very crispy in nature and the process of making this dish is very difficult but not impossible. They have to heat the oil to a temperature where it shouldn’t be so hot to burn the spinach and it shouldn’t be so cold to spoil the spinach.

Falafel and Hummus‘ was also good and it was slightly altered to satisfy the local taste buds. This comes with Pita Bread base and Garlic Mayo (Aioli). Now the best of all the starters I had, ‘Jalapeno Poppers‘. Being a huge fan cheese based products if something like this comes to your table, then you can’t just resist it. This dish is made by mixing three different varieties of cheese, Jalapenos and served with Mayonnaise. Last but not least, ‘Kamal Kakdi Galauti‘ which is lotus stem based dish. Tasted good.

In salads, we had, ‘Waldorf Salad‘ and ‘Orange and Beetroot Salad‘. ‘Waldorf Salad‘ is made with two different kinds of apple and walnuts tossed in Mayonnaise. ‘Orange and Beetroot Salad‘ is a dish that has slightly roasted beetroot and fresh orange with feta cheese garnished with different kinds of caviar (vegetarian version).

A special mention about a mocktail,  ‘Hot Tody‘ I had here. It is a hot drink made of cardamom, basil, roasted cinnamon and black peppermint. Very good for someone who has a cold I’d say 😉

In Main Course, ‘Paprika Risotto‘, ‘Gnocchi Pesto‘, ‘Olive Naan‘, ‘Nanza‘ and ‘Kamal Kakdi Lababdar Curry‘. Among ‘Paprika Risotto‘ and ‘Gnocchi Pesto‘ I liked the latter as I felt the former one was little different with the taste. I felt like some kind if spices or salt was missing from the dish. It is a rice based dish. ‘Gnocchi Pesto‘ was better. It is basically a potato based pasta with basil pesto. ‘Olive Naan’ and ‘Nanza’ were two heavenly dishes where Nanza is a mix of Naan and Pizza, filled with cheese. ‘Kamal Kakdi Lababdar Curry‘ is a lotus stem based curry made in thick tomato gravy which went very well with both the bread items we had.

The best is always saved for the rest, Desserts 🙂

Baked Cheese Cake‘, ‘Chocolate Mousse‘, ‘Pan Tantra‘ and ‘Tres Leche‘ were the ones to sweep us off our feet. I was unable to differentiate which dessert is better than the other. But, if you still want me to pick one, I’d pick ‘Tres Leche‘.

Coming to the pricing of this restaurant, all the soups are priced at Rs.180,  salads Rs.225, starters from Rs.285 to Rs.450, mains from Rs.250 to Rs.450 depending on the items you choose and desserts from Rs.200 to Rs. 300. I heard and saw the pictures of other people that the quantity that was served earlier and the quantity that is being served now is a way better than before. I hope they have done it according to the feedback given from the previous customers.

As it was a Food Tasting Session arranged by the Management of Tatva, the price was on the house and the review is absolutely unbiased and true to its taste.

On the whole, I would love to go back to this place when I’m in a mood to have delicious and tummy satisfying vegetarian food with a few extra bucks shelled!

For the Love of Food!”
